BPI Weatherization Training

The Everblue BPI Weatherization Certification course includes a minimum of 3 days of hands-on weatherization training. This BPI Certification course teaches the proper installation of residential air-sealing measures including dense-pack insulation, spray-foam, caulk, mastic, foamboard, bubbleblanket, fire-rated sealants and barriers, as well as techniques for sealing and insulating ducts, canned lights, attic hatches, crawlspaces, plumbing penetrations, top-plates and a variety of gaps, cracks and openings found in a home. On the last day of the course, students will complete a hands-on test for the BPI Residential Building Envelope Accessible Areas Air Leakage Control Installer Certification.

Weatherizing residential and commercial buildings is one of the best ways for building owners to save large amounts of money on energy costs quickly. Interestingly, though, few people actually know how to weatherize. For this reason, now is the time to get this knowledge and get yourself into a new industry that is sure to grow as more and more people find out about the undeniable financial benefits of weatherization. The Weatherization Certification course is intended to give the student a depth of knowledge necessary to perform Infrared surveys of single or multifamily dwellings by identifying weatherization issues. The class covers IR camera operation, basic report generation, fundamentals of IR science and heat transfer principles.

A good weatherization IR survey can identify thermal anomalies that indicate missing and defective insulation due to damage, moisture and improper installation. The IR survey can also provide indication of moisture, air infiltration and air exfiltration. The course covers the environmental conditions necessary for a successful weatherization IR survey, as well as pitfalls to avoid. If you are looking for a more introductory level certification we have a shortened 2-day course to set you up with basic IR camera operation, and fundamental building science theories. Learn the topics that are being demanded by homeowners across nation.

Why Take Weatherization Training

Attending this course gives participants an understanding of the Weatherization Assistance Program, characteristics of the client base served by the program, recognition that building science guides the selection of measures installed with program dollars, the principles of cost-effectiveness and the Savings to Investment Ratio that accompany modern weatherization measures. Having this background allows participants to become more approachable and qualified for government incentives and various "green" initiatives.

Attending this training enables individuals to attain one of the following BPI Weatherization Certifications:

Residential Building Envelope Accessible Areas Air Leakage Control Installer – implement measures to tighten the building envelope to reduce energy loss from air leakage and also reduce pollutants and allergens through air migration. Improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency through the proper installation of dense-pack insulation materials.

Residential Building Envelope Whole House Air Leakage Control Crew Chief – provide supervision, guidance and quality control to teams in the field working on: controlling air migration through the building envelope and also on the proper installation of dense-pack insulation materials.

Hi, I'm thinking about weatherization training. Does your class give my some kind of thing, like a diploma or something? Is it just a piece of paper from everblue, or is it some kind of thing that the government or state requires- like a contractor's license or something? Thanks.

    John,
If you complete the weatherization training you would be well position to take both the RESNET and the BPI Energy auditor written and field exams.  In fact, if you are looking for an official, nationally recognized certification, I would recommend the BPI Building  Analyst Training.
